Women travelling from US to get abortions in UK after Roe v Wade overturned

After millions of women lost their legal ability to obtain an abortion in the US, providers claim that women from America have travelled to the UK to do so.

Since the US Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade in June, one of the UK's top abortion providers told The Independent that US women have flown over to use their services.

Roe v. Wade was a historic ruling that made abortion legalized nationwide in 1973.

Since then, abortion services in the US have seen a significant transformation. The majority of the states that quickly reduced the number of abortions after Roe v.

While still a small amount, Sarah Salkeld, an associate clinic director at MSI Reproductive Choices UK, noted that since Roe v. Wade was overturned, the number of women traveling from the US has increased.

It's amazing, she continued, that individuals from America are coming here for abortions. They have travelled great distances solely to obtain abortions.

"I wonder if they are simply feeling so anxious about the political situation that they are just saying, "I'm just going there. I would feel worried if I was in America given what has happened.”

Ms Salkeld questioned whether the women were concerned someone might “tell on them” if they were to cross state lines to get an abortion in their home country.
